For Reviewers

The Journal of Teaching and Learning Studies (JTLS) recognizes the essential role of peer reviewers in maintaining the quality, integrity, and scientific impact of the journal. Peer review is fundamental to ensuring that published research meets the highest standards of scholarly rigor, methodological quality, and ethical conduct.

Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Accept review assignments only within their area of expertise;
  • Complete reviews within the requested timeframe;
  • Inform the editor promptly if they are unable to complete a review;
  • Evaluate manuscripts fairly, objectively, and solely on their scholarly merit;
  • Provide constructive, evidence based, and professional feedback;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all materials received for review;
  • Disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest;
  • Report concerns regarding publication ethics or research misconduct.

Reviewers should not contact authors directly under any circumstances.

Evaluation Criteria

Reviewers are encouraged to evaluate manuscripts with regard to:

  • Originality and contribution to the field;
  • Relevance to the journal's aims and scope;
  • Theoretical foundation and engagement with the literature;
  • Methodological rigor and appropriateness;
  • Quality of data analysis and interpretation;
  • Clarity of presentation and organization;
  • Significance of findings and conclusions;
  • Relevance and adequacy of references.

Reviewer Recommendations

Following evaluation, reviewers are typically asked to recommend one of the following decisions:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

Reviewer recommendations support the editorial decision making process; however, the final publication decision rests with the Editor in Chief.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, discuss, or use unpublished materials for personal, professional, institutional, or financial advantage.

Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers should decline review invitations when personal, professional, institutional, or financial relationships may compromise, or appear to compromise, their objectivity. Any potential conflict of interest should be disclosed to the handling editor.

Ethical Responsibilities

Reviewers are expected to support research integrity by reporting concerns related to:

  • Plagiarism
  • Duplicate publication
  • Data fabrication or falsification
  • Image manipulation
  • Authorship disputes
  • Ethical approval concerns
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest

Suspected ethical issues should be communicated confidentially to the editor.

Constructive Reviewing

Reviewers are encouraged to provide feedback that is:

  • Respectful
  • Professional
  • Specific
  • Actionable
  • Evidence based

Comments should focus on the scholarly content of the manuscript rather than the authors.

JTLS greatly values the contributions of its reviewers. Through their expertise and commitment, reviewers help ensure the quality, credibility, and advancement of research in teaching and learning.
