Peer Review Policy

The Journal of Teaching and Learning Studies (JTLS) is committed to maintaining high standards of scholarly publishing through a rigorous, fair, transparent, and timely peer review process. All submitted manuscripts undergo editorial screening and independent peer review before a publication decision is made.

Initial Editorial Screening

Upon submission, manuscripts are evaluated by the Editorial Office and the Editor-in-Chief to determine whether they:

  • Fit the aims and scope of the journal;
  • Comply with submission and formatting requirements;
  • Demonstrate originality and scholarly contribution;
  • Meet methodological and ethical standards;
  • Are written in clear and appropriate academic English.

Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be rejected without external review.

Assignment to a Section Editor

Manuscripts passing the initial screening are assigned to a Section Editor with expertise relevant to the subject area. The Section Editor manages the peer review process, selects reviewers, evaluates review reports, and makes recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief.

Double Blind Peer Review

JTLS operates a double blind peer review system in which the identities of authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.

Authors must ensure that manuscripts submitted for review contain no identifying information.

Reviewer Selection

Each manuscript is normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers selected on the basis of their expertise and absence of conflicts of interest. Reviewers may be members of the Editorial Board, Reviewer Board, the journal's reviewer database, or external experts.

Reviewer Evaluation Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:

  • Originality and contribution to the field;
  • Theoretical foundation and literature review;
  • Research design and methodology;
  • Data analysis and interpretation;
  • Validity and reliability of findings;
  • Clarity of presentation;
  • Discussion and conclusions;
  • Ethical compliance;
  • Overall scholarly significance.

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and evidence based feedback.

Editorial Decisions

Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

The final publication decision rests solely with the Editor-in-Chief.

Appeals

Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a reasoned explanation to the Editor-in-Chief. Appeals are reviewed independently, and the decision reached after the appeal process is final.

Confidentiality

All submitted manuscripts are treated as confidential documents. Editors, reviewers, and editorial staff must not disclose or use unpublished materials obtained through the peer review process for personal or professional advantage.
